Why most healthcare chatbots fail HIPAA in practice

Most chatbot vendors will tell you they're "HIPAA-friendly." Then you read the architecture and discover every patient message is shipped to a hosted LLM API with no signed BAA covering the AI provider. That's not HIPAA-compliant — that's a disclosure waiting to be audited.

MyTechGenie is designed around the opposite assumption: patient data should never leave your walls. The AI model runs inside your own AWS environment. PHI is scrubbed before any external service touches it. The platform routes patient identifiers only through BAA-covered paths, with disclosure accounting under HIPAA §164.528.

How it works in a medical practice

After-hours patient intake

Capture symptoms, contact info, and urgency without an after-hours human. Genie escalates anything clinical to a person.

Appointment scheduling

Two-way calendar sync, conflict checking, and automatic reminders. Patients reschedule without picking up the phone.

Prescription & refill triage

Routes refill requests to the right staff member with patient verification and call-back scheduling.

Live-agent escalation

When a patient needs a clinician, your team joins the chat with the full thread. No repeating themselves.

Built for compliance officers

Every feature was designed with the question "can we defend this in an audit?" If the answer was no, we redesigned it. The result:

Who it's for

Frequently asked questions

Do you sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA)?

Yes. We sign a BAA before any patient data flows through the platform. The BAA covers all components of the deployment, including the AI model running in your AWS environment.

Where does our patient data actually go?

Patient data stays inside your AWS environment. The AI model is an open-source model running on your infrastructure. PHI never goes to OpenAI, Anthropic, or any third-party LLM API. We can see operational metadata (uptime, error rates) but not conversation content.

What happens if a patient describes a medical emergency?

Genie is trained to recognize emergency language (chest pain, suicidal ideation, severe bleeding) and immediately surface a clear instruction to call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department, while simultaneously notifying your on-call team.

Can patients schedule appointments through the chatbot?

Yes. Genie syncs with Google Calendar and Outlook two-way, checks for provider availability and conflicts, books the appointment, and sends confirmation and reminder messages.

How long does it take to deploy at a practice?

Production-ready in about a week for most single-location practices, including knowledge base loading, calendar integration, and staff training. Multi-location and EHR-integrated deployments take longer.

How is this priced?

Founding Customer pricing is $249/month after the 90-day pilot. Larger and multi-location deployments are scoped separately. No per-message fees.
